Summer days in Fennville, Saugatuck, and Douglas are 99% sunny. This is my very scientific estimate based on experience. ;) However, when it decides to storm, Lake Michigan can really amp it up and help us get some of the very coolest stormy weather as well. This night was no exception. Constant lightning lit up the sky while clouds swirled and dance all around the Hop & Vine Inn. We didn't need TV, we had the storm to watch for over an hour!

Saugatuck, Douglas, and Fennville have no shortage of sun during the summer, and there are plenty of ways to get on the water. Lake Michigan & the Kalamazoo River are best experienced by the Star of Saugatuck (old fashioned paddlewheel boat), driving your own retro boat (from Retro Boat rentals), kayaking the river (and navigating the cattails), or sailing on the Serenity sailboat. Sooo, that's how you get ON the water, but remember to pack some cooler beverages to stay hydrated! ;)
We took the short 20 minute drive from Fennville to South Haven to catch the sunset. Turned out we were a little late, but the real show was AFTER the sunset, when the sky lit up like it was on fire! Such a great surprise. South Haven is a cute town our family reunion guests love to check out after visiting Saugatuck & Douglas. Lots of darling shops, excellent food, and a beautiful beach!
Does our Michigan family reunion venue usually have furniture in the entry way? Nope. But if a family rents our venue for a family reunion, they're more than welcome to rearrange things to fit their needs perfectly (like this family who wanted to play ping pong in the dining room)! We liked their style. Catering food in, setting out snacks and photo albums, and having the kids crash on the living room floor while watching a movie with cousins are all A-OK with us. We know memories are in the making, and we want this to be their favorite reunion of all time. :)
